Dr. Elizabeth Dimba, senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences, identified a need for more effective training in the provision of tobacco cessation counseling and worked with a multidisciplinary team to develop intensive three-day residential workshops. These trainings resulted in increased awareness of the 5A’s and effective methods of pharmacotherapy among oral health care professionals. Dr. Dimba also noted a reduction of perceived barriers in favor of more positive attitudes toward short interventions for tobacco use prevention and cessation counseling.
