Nurses can play key roles in providing individual counselling and advocacy of smoke-free homes in Hong Kong. Brief health education intervention by nurses in a busy clinical setting produced short-term effects in several key areas: raising awareness about exposure to secondhand smoke, reducing cigarette consumption, initiating quit attempts, and ultimately reducing sick children’s exposure to secondhand smoke.
