Quit Tobacco International (QTI) is a multi-disciplinary tobacco cessation project working in India, Indonesia, and the U.S. Since 2003, QTI has been developing culturally sensitive approaches to tobacco cessation. Learning from the Experts: A Course for Healthcare Professionals

“Learning from the Experts: A Course for Healthcare Professionals” is an online resource administered by the Institute for Global Tobacco Control at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.This online training, accessible via the link http://hp.globaltobaccocontrol.org/online_training, is free and open to any healthcare professional who is interested in learning more about tobacco control. The course prepares participants to become an empowering voice and valuable resource in the fight against tobacco. Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate of completion from the Institute for Global Tobacco Control at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. In addition, those who are eligible may apply to receive a maximum of 2.5 American Medical Association PRA Category 1 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. All materials can be accessed in eight languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese).

Intensive Tobacco Intervention with Persons Challenged by Mental Illness: Manual for Nurses

A manual for nurses on the treatment of tobacco dependence in persons challenged by mental illness developed by Dr. Daryl Sharp and her colleagues at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. This is a tobacco dependence intervention manual written by nurses for nurses. It complements the 2009 update of Smoking Cessation for Persons with Mental Illnesses: A Toolkit for Mental Health Providers (Morris, Waxmonsky, May, Giese, & Martin, 2009) in which the epidemiology, special challenges, and specific evidence-based interventions needed to help those with mental illnesses to stop smoking are well described.

Argentina: Curso virtual para el tratamiento de la adicción al tabaco

MINISTERO DE SALUD: Dirección de Promoción de la Salud y Control de Enfermedades No Transmisibles en articulación con el Plan Nacer diseñaron un curso online sobre el Abordaje Integral del Tratamiento del Tabaquismo.El curso, de carácter abierto y autoadministrado, está orientado a equipos de salud que trabajan la problemática del tabaquismo como también a toda persona que desee capacitarse en la temática.La iniciativa se compone de seis módulos donde se elaboran políticas efectivas para combatir esta epidemia. Además, tiene como objetivo difundir y concientizar del daño que produce el tabaco como también los beneficios que se obtienen al dejar de fumar.Asimismo, en él se puede encontrar el estilo de atención motivacional y el tratamiento farmacológico para esta adicción.Merece destacarse que el curso incluye un módulo que hace especial énfasis en el abordaje de la mujer embarazada que fuma.Entre los materiales que se pueden encontrar hay videos didácticos y un conjunto de instrumentos prácticos realizados para ser introducidos en la atención al fumador.El Abordaje Integral del Tratamiento del Tabaquismo está basado en las recomendaciones y evidencias científicas de la Guía de Práctica Clínica Nacional de Tratamiento del Tabaquismo, elaborada por las direcciones de Promoción de la Salud y Enfermedades No Transmisibles y de Calidad en los Servicios de Salud de la cartera sanitaria nacional.
