Dr. Elizabeth Dimba, senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi College of Health Sciences, identified a need for more effective training in the provision of tobacco cessation counseling and worked with a multidisciplinary team to develop intensive three-day residential workshops.
The Strengthening Tobacco Cessation Capacity of Primary Care Professionals (SCCoPE) project combines online and face-to-face training as well as a network and community of practice to strengthen primary care providers’ capacity to provide effective, evidence-based tobacco dependence treatment.
Research from Global Bridges grantee Cristina Martinez, PhD, RN, BA concludes that online education may be an effective way to provide evidence-based tobacco cessation training in LAC countries.
