Tobacco Dependence Treatment Course Held in Cancun, Mexico

On April 10-11, 2012, Global Bridges and the Mexican Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (Sociedad Mexicana de Neumonología y Cirugía de Tórax) presented a tobacco dependence treatment course in Cancun, Mexico.

The course took place during the 71st Congress of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (LXXI Congreso Nacional de Neumología y Cirugía de Tórax).

Participating in the course were 41 health care professionals, including physicians, psychologists, social workers and medical students.

Faculty in charge of the course:

  • Gustavo Zabert, M.D., a pulmonologist, is the Global Bridges regional director for Latin America and holds a leadership position in the Latin American Thoracic Society.
  • Carlos Jimenez Ruiz, M.D., Ph.D., works at Unidad Especializada en Tabaquismo, Madrid, España.
  • Maria Elma Correa, M.D., works at the Instituto Nacional del Cancerlogía, Mexico.
  • Eryka del Carmen Urdapilleta-Herrera, Dra en Psic, is a psychologist who works at Departamento de Investigación en Tabaquismo y EPOC del Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias Ismael Cosío Villegas, Mexico, D.F.
  • Francisco Bernabe Jimenez, M.D., works at Consejo Estatal Contra las Adicciones in the Ministry of Health, Puebla, Mexico, as a coordinator of the tobacco control department.
  • Raul Sansores, M.S., is a respiratory medicine specialist at Centro Respiratorio de Mexico.
