Slide Set, Audio/Video Recording of ‘Women and Smoking’ Webinar Now Available
In recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8, Global Bridges presented the free webinar “Women and Smoking,” which featured Ivana Croghan, Ph.D., coordinator of the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center’s Research Program.
In her two decades of tobacco control research, Dr. Croghan has found that women have different reasons than men for smoking and wanting to quit. For example, women are more likely to believe they can’t stop smoking. They also tend to smoke fewer cigarettes than men, yet are more likely to be heavily addicted.
During the webinar, Dr. Croghan discussed:
- Trends and differences in smoking rates between women and men
- Reasons that women are more likely to smoke
- Common barriers that prevent women from quitting
- The importance of gender-specific treatment approaches
Dr. Croghan took part in a question-and-answer session after her presentation. Read more about Dr. Croghan’s research.
